Spirit Baptism

Baptism with the Holy Spirit is one of the three baptisms believers receive.  When we receive water baptism unto repentance and the baptism of the Holy Spirit then we enter the kingdom of God.

The flesh is the word and teachings of Christ, the blood is the Holy Spirit, for eternal life, we must learn His doctrine and participate in the Holy Spirit.  Jesus compares the Holy Spirit to rivers of living water fountaining from our heart to bring eternal life to us and whoever we share it with.

The spiritual well Jesus creates in our hearts is very deep, reaching even unto third heaven bringing us His divine life and presence.  The Holy Spirit within us is our Comforter, the Spirit of Truth whereby Jesus abides with us.

Jesus died so that He could give us the Holy Spirit our Comforter to guide us back to Him.  When Jesus first poured out the Holy Spirit on His disciples, they spoke with other tongues manifesting His power.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father fulfilled.  The promise of the Holy Spirit goes beyond the early disciples reaching all that are afar off, even us.  The promise of the Holy Spirit is life eternal.

The Samaritans received water baptism into the name of Jesus from Philip then received the gift of the Holy Spirit when John and Peter laid hands on them.  The Holy Spirit fell on those gentiles while Peter preached the gospel.  He knew they had received the Holy Spirit because they spoke with tongues.

Speaking in tongues is a sign that God hath granted unto the believer repentance unto life.  Like many Christians today, these disciples were baptized in water unto repentance, but still needed the power of God.  When baptized in the Holy Spirit they immediately manifested God’s power by speaking in tongues and prophesying.

Mat 3:11-12 RV  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire:  (12)  whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

Baptism with the Holy Spirit is one of the three baptisms believers receive.

Joh 3:1-6 RV  Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:  (2)  The same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.  (3)  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  (4)  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?  (5)  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  (6)  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

When we receive water baptism unto repentance and the baptism of the Holy Spirit then we enter the kingdom of God.

Joh 6:53-58 RV  Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves.  (54)  He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.  (55)  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.  (56)  He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him.  (57)  As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.  (58)  This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers did eat, and died: he that eateth this bread shall live for ever.

The flesh is the word and teachings of Christ, the blood is the Holy Spirit, for eternal life, we must learn His doctrine and participate in the Holy Spirit.

Joh 7:37-39 RV  Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  (38)  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  (39)  But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Jesus compares the Holy Spirit to rivers of living water fountaining from our heart to bring eternal life to us and whoever we share it with.

Joh 4:10-14 RV  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.  (11)  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?  (12)  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?  (13)  Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  (14)  but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

The spiritual well Jesus creates in our hearts is very deep, reaching even unto third heaven bringing us His divine life and presence.

Joh 14:16-18 RV  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,  (17)  even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.  (18)  I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.

The Holy Spirit within us is our Comforter, the Spirit of Truth whereby Jesus abides with us.

Joh 16:7-13 RV  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.  (8)  And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  (9)  of sin, because they believe not on me;  (10)  of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye behold me no more;  (11)  of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.  (12)  I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  (13)  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

Jesus died so that He could give us the Holy Spirit our Comforter to guide us back to Him.

Act 2:1-6 RV  And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place.  (2)  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  (3)  And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.  (4)  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  (5)  Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.  (6)  And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.

When Jesus first poured out the Holy Spirit on His disciples, they spoke with other tongues manifesting His power.

Act 2:32-33 RV  This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.  (33)  Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father fulfilled.

Act 2:37-39 RV  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?  (38)  And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  (39)  For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.

The promise of the Holy Spirit goes beyond the early disciples reaching all that are afar off, even us.

1Jn 2:25 RV  And this is the promise which he promised us, even the life eternal.

The promise of the Holy Spirit is life eternal.

Act 8:14-18 RV  Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:  (15)  who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:  (16)  for as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  (17)  Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.  (18)  Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

The Samaritans received water baptism into the name of Jesus from Philip then received the gift of the Holy Spirit when John and Peter laid hands on them.

Act 10:44-48 RV  While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them which heard the word.  (45)  And they of the circumcision which believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.  (46)  For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,  (47)  Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?  (48)  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The Holy Spirit fell on those gentiles while Peter preached the gospel.  He knew they had received the Holy Spirit because they spoke with tongues.

Act 11:13-18 RV  and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter;  (14)  who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.  (15)  And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.  (16)  And I remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.  (17)  If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?  (18)  And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life.

Speaking in tongues is a sign that God hath granted unto the believer  repentance unto life.

Act 19:1-6 RV  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:  (2)  and he said unto them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit was given.  (3)  And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism.  (4)  And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Jesus.  (5)  And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  (6)  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Like many Christians today, these disciples were baptized in water unto repentance, but still needed the power of God.  When baptized in the Holy Spirit they immediately manifested God’s power by speaking in tongues and prophesying.
